Last week Star Trek-Captain's Log:Jellico was released. It was a stand alone story about a somewhat unpopular captain captured exquisitely by writer Keith DeCandido.
But the most amazing part of this issue for me can be found on 1 page in particular. In the background you'll see art featured from 2 special guest artists. Javen and Elihjah.
more on their contributions can be found here.
So I was feeling a little discouraged about my career today. We all have those "is it worth it?" days, I think, and when those days occur all we can hope for is a quick dose of perspective.
Today I got that in the form of a message from Amy(The boys' mother)
I wanted to share it with everyone, particularly those who work in the comics world, to remind us all of the true value of our labours which we sometimes forget.
"SO - I just got back from an IEP (Ed plan) meeting for Elijah. Not sure if I told you - but he is the most disabled of all the kids. With some mental illness sprinkled on top... So - we are reviewing progress, med changes - blah blah boring...
So his teacher has to present an update on his progress. Writing and drawing is tough b/c of a brain injury.. Still is. Team noticed a major shift in attitude and effort from last year. Meds were given some credit - and so were you. Apparently, he has them fold and staple paper so he can make comic books to practice his drawing and writing. I had sent his teacher your blog so they would know what he was talking about - and get permission for a show and tell. The special ed director commented what a positive effect that experience has had on his self esteem and effort levels.
So, now it's not just me giving you props...
:) "

Awe.... well, glad I told you know. Hate to sound dorky - but you really did get through in a way us the rest of us could not. You really never know how important what you do is to other people. I am sure you art has inspired more people than you know!! Keep up the AMAZING work you do!!!!
